Modern Flower Garden {Finished!}

Throughout my life I have long been known as an unfinisher and a quit in the middler.
When I took up quilting, I promised myself that I would never leave my projects unfinished.

And everything was going according to plan.... Until......

I found that I had three quilt tops sitting waiting for one thing or another.
Threads or backing fabric, or both, were missing.
This made me feel uneasy and a little fearful.
Would I complete these projects?
Or were they destined to become
the dreaded UFO?

In due time, the thread arrived.
The backing fabrics were chosen and procured.
And each of the first two tops (Modern Charm and Fox & Friends) were quilted and shared.

This weekend has been slow but steady in the quilting department.
On Saturday the Modern Flower Garden hexagon quilt, was basted.

And on Sunday I made the binding.
A scrappy binding - from the solids used as the centers of the flowers.

Monday was spent quilting one spiral.
On Tuesday, the second spiral was quilted.

One spiral in pink Magnifico thread and the other in green.
Each over lapping the other.

And on Wednesday, the echoing of those spirals was completed using blue Magnifico.

Then the quilt was trimmed and the binding was sewn on.

It's a bright fun quilt.  Full of polka dots.  Looking for a good time.
Fun in the sun!  Picnic weather.  Hanging out by the pool.
Feeling kinda Funky, Baby!

She's a groovy little quilt.  Measures about 53" x 55".  I like to call her "That 70's Quilt".
And a little peek at the backing!
Almost a tie dye.

As an aside, if you are participating in the Oblongagon quilt along, take a look at all the helpful quilting suggestions left on this Modern Flower Garden update post.  You may be tempted to use one as your next quilting design!  Thank you all for taking the time to leave a comment and to share your creative ideas!

Lovely finish Lorna! How did you do the spirals? With a free motion foot or walking foot? and did you mark the spirals or just eye-ball it? So many questions sorry!

I love how you finished this quilt. The quilting is so unexpected, but absolutely perfect. I also loved reading your tales of the three tops waiting for something. That is what I think when I feel stretched with extra projects.
